Open Call
May 30, 2007I am doing an open call on name suggestions.
Uncommon names are welcomed. Something that we won’t hear other girls be called every day. Sadly we hear another little girl with the same name as Kid #2 almost every day.
Know that all suggestions are welcomed but only a few will probably be considered. I’ve even resorted to checking it against the social security administration to see how many of that name are sent in for social security numbers every year. Must be feminine, must be pretty.
Names being considered so far:
Ragan (hubby not sure if it’s feminine enough)
Cadence (it’s a musical term so hubby kinda wants to vear away from it)
Chloe (although we have a close friend that lives in Utah that just named her 2nd daughter this name. That would be an automatic no in my book but hubby really likes it.) Possible variance: ChloeLynn.

Well I was liking the Cadence one. But here’s my list, so far. I have no clue what is common or not…
Ari
Ilana
Yeah that’s all I’ve got as of now. Ilana’s more of a “grown up name” and Ari…well I just think Ari is awesome…but that’s me. I’ll keep thinking though.
How are you doing? Taking it easy I hope…
I love thinking of names…especially girls! Here are some that we thought of:
Annika
Lena (with a long e sound)
Antonia
ummm…ok, so now none of them are coming to me!
We like names that will live with them forever, since that’s what their names have to do. I always think if they could sound cool as a news reporter, but still have a cute name as a little girl, like Abi to Abigail, Sophi to Sophia. Maybe that’s just us though!
Good luck!!
i have a sister-in-law whose name is dalynn. not dallin, but like, duh-lynn. except, when you write it like that it doesn’t seem appealing. anyway, i love her name, but won’t get to use it!
elsa is cute too.
Here are some of my favories:
Milena
Miriana
Andra
Michelle
Denise
The first two are Bulgarian.
Good luck!
Good luck – I only have one girl’s name floating in my head – and that name we are using if we have a girl – not that you couldn’t use it – that name is Heidi, other than that I have always had a hard time coming up with girls names that I like – good luck!
We have always stuck with traditional names, so I sometimes have a difficult time coming up with creative and cool ones. Mostly I think about the family name that I will be using as the middle name, then find a first name that sounds good with it. Typically, if we pick a short sounding middle name we pick a short sounding first name. Just keep trying, you will find the perfect name
i also had a couple of friends with cool names. siboney (pronounced SI-bow-nay) and satya (SAH-tee-uh). beautiful girls and such unique names!
I like the name Tabitha (I like the biblical reference, Peter raises Tabitha from the dead in Acts 9:36-41)
)
My niece is named Elina (E-lean-a). I think that’s pretty.
If we ever have another girl we’re thinking of the name TimberLynne (poor kid, I know
I’m feeling botanical tonight so I’ll suggest Lupine. I used to like Soleil (SO-lay) as it is French for sun, but now that it’s getting treendy, it’s out. And then there’s my trump middle name in case we ever have a girl, which I will not divulge publicly until I’m positive there will be no girls.
Do something odd, like read a map, and see if any of the places speak to you. That’s how I chose the middle name that Paul can’t veto.
I have a good friend named Regan (Ree-gan), and I always thought that was a cool name. I would personally veer away from Cadence because it signifies and end. I love Eden’s Bulgarian suggestions, I think they are gorgeous. Other names I like:
Kate
Eleas/Elise/Elize (pretty any way you spell it)
Astrid (it means divine strength, how beautiful is that?)
Lily
Meredith
Tia/Tiana
Annie
Norah
Janine
And I remember you mentionning you liked the name Eden…
One last suggestion if you don’t want to do the map thing (because I know that’s wierd) is to look through your pedigree chart and see if any of your old family names speak to you.
Here are some names you should NOT use (from the family history charts!)
Temperance
Prudence
Faith, Hope and Charity
Rasminnie
Harriette
As always give your child a name she can be comfortable with at age 5 and at age 55, and also which will not get her beat up on the play ground!
You could always just name her
Sandia SanaAna Star, after our lovely casinos! ahahahaaa!
I vote Norah, Regan or Lily. East of Eden’s right; we tried to pick a name that would grow with our kiddo. Those three names should grow beautifully with yours. Elsa? What, would she be 70 at birth? Just sounds so…old to me. (Shrug.)
Yeah, or go with Ohkay after the other casino. Sounds exotic, doncha think?
A friend of ours just used the name Emery. I kind of like it. I wanted Elizabeth and it got a veto. I’m a little stuck on girl names too.
Steph, that was kind of rude to slam someone’s suggestion. She didn’t say you had to like it. It’s a popular Scandinavian name. Not that you aren’t entitled to an opinion or anything, but you could probably have been nicer or kept it to yourself. Your little Katie is adorable, btw!
*IF* we ever have a girl, I want to name her Elizabeth and call her Ellie. You can have it if you want it (I told Alyson the same thing, but Elizabeth already got vetoed).
Here are my other name suggestions:
Carys (it’s Welsh and means love)
Maggie
Ella
Laural (heh, always liked her name!!)
Kendra (not a whole lot of those anymore)
Holly (this is what I was supposed to be named)
Harriet (and you can call her Harry… because I KNOW that’s what you want!!)
i love, love, cadence, and because of your guys musical background it makes sense. also, allegra has been a name that i’ve liked, but that’s a medication now right? cecily, was a super cute girl i knew a long time ago, and a cute name. i have always liked meg, simple and sweet, and very nice with your last name. i think olivia is beautiful, and she’d have her own books! good luck with the choosing!
Kimbo, I’m sorry if I offended you. I actually thought you were kidding so I’m sorry I misinterpreted your comment. If it was a family name, I understand how it would have more meaning and would be prettier because of it. Before we had Katie we almost used “Udell” as her middle name. While that sounds pretty redneck to some people (as it did to my side of the family), Kyle and I both loved it because it belongs to his beloved grandmother who practically raised him. We wanted to honor her in some way but got so many objections we used her maiden name instead (“King”).
Azure, wow. I didn’t even think I’d offend anyone with my comment and I’m sorry. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I’ll try to be more careful in the future in my assumptions. (And thanks for the Katie compliment!)
Forgot to mention there’s a couple I know who named their first Cadence and their second Melody. Cute.
